CONTROL Resonant World — Places and Their Connections
Learn what each named place is, why it matters to Dylan and which characters, activities or systems connect to it. Use the Map page when an objective clue becomes a route problem.

What is each place in Dylan's story?
We separate the new spaces from the old ones: Manhattan's Zones are the main setting, while the Oldest House is the Bureau headquarters from CONTROL. The field office is a hub and the Gap is Dylan's build space. Open a place file when you need its role or connected activity.
Looking for a place from an objective?
We use the Wiki to explain what each place is. If you have a Zone name, Fault, or obstacle in front of you, use the Map status and confirmed locations to see what we can place now and which routes still need a direct check.
Which place serves which purpose?
The city, Bureau hub, build space and returning headquarters have distinct roles in Dylan's story.
| Place | What it is | Connected activity or context | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manhattan Zones | Handcrafted areas | Main story, World Quests and encounters | Not announced as one seamless open world |
| FBC field office | Evolving central hub | Bureau presence and travel between major Zones | Use it as a hub, not as a substitute for each Zone's local map |
| The Gap | Dylan's build space | Aberrant upgrades, loadout testing and Artifact crafting | Distinct from the field office |
| Oldest House | Returning FBC headquarters | Dylan's confinement and the earlier CONTROL story | Old CONTROL maps do not map the new city |
| West Incursion Zone | Named early Zone | Early gameplay and Gravity Anomalies | Not a complete zone checklist |
Manhattan Zones and paranatural spaces
These have enough distinct facts and player context for a dedicated file.
Resonant leaves the Oldest House for a warped Manhattan built from distinct zones rather than a single checklist-sized map.
The Oldest HouseFBC headquartersThe Bureau's shifting headquarters is the main setting of CONTROL and a returning location in Dylan's Resonant story.
West Incursion ZoneNamed Manhattan ZoneAn early area used in the gameplay reveal to show shifting architecture, enemies and traversal through a distorted city.
The GapBuild and progression spaceThe Gap is Dylan's in-world build space: a place to adjust combat tools, develop Talents, craft Artifacts and test a loadout away from an encounter.
FBC Field OfficeManhattan hubThe Federal Bureau of Control's field office is the evolving central hub linking the game's handcrafted Manhattan Zones; it is not a claim that the city is one seamless open-world map.
Federal Bureau of ControlOrganization / series backgroundThe FBC studies and contains paranatural events. To Dylan it is both the organization that confined him and the one sending him into Manhattan's current crisis.
Ordinary AWECONTROL (2019) background eventThe childhood incident in Ordinary connects Jesse, Dylan, the Slide Projector and the FBC's Prime Candidate program. It explains the siblings' different histories before Resonant.
Prime Candidate ProgramCONTROL (2019) Bureau programThe FBC's search for a future Director designated Dylan as P6 and Jesse as P7. These file labels explain older Bureau records, not a new progression tree for Resonant.
World locations and traversal concepts
When an older CONTROL location appears, we treat it as background until the new game shows that the route is playable.
| Topic | Place or concept | Known player use |
|---|---|---|
| Federal Bureau of Control ↗Series background | Series background | The FBC is the secret agency that investigates, studies and contains paranatural phenomena. Its headquarters is the Oldest House. Dylan's complicated relationship with the Bureau is easier to follow if you remember that its personnel, research aims and containment decisions are not the same thing. We read a Bureau file as an in-world institutional account. Who wrote it, what is redacted and what the characters dispute matter more than treating it as an all-knowing explanation. |
| Altered ItemsSeries background | Series background | Everyday objects can acquire strange, sometimes dangerous properties after contact with paranatural forces. The important distinction for a player is that an unusual object is not necessarily something you can equip or bind.We look at the object's behavior and containment instructions before thinking about loot. A story object, passive Artifact and collectible document belong in different categories. |
| Objects of PowerSeries background | Series background | Objects of Power are a special category associated with the Astral Plane. Many can be bound by people with paranatural aptitude, making their abilities usable. The lore is more nuanced than 'every strange object grants a skill'.We separate an object's story classification from its gameplay system. Calling the Aberrant an Object of Power does not tell us its damage, rarity or unlock cost. |
| ResonanceSeries background | Series background | The Bureau uses resonance to describe energies and frequencies involved in paranatural effects. Different resonances can affect people and reality differently; the Hiss is not a synonym for every supernatural force. When a scene mentions a new resonance, avoid assuming it has the Hiss's exact behavior. The term provides a story framework, not a universal elemental weakness chart. |
| Altered World EventSeries background | Series background | An AWE is an intrusion of paranatural forces that changes ordinary reality. Such incidents are central to the Bureau's investigations and can involve altered objects or other phenomena.Check the context when a guide says AWE: it may mean a type of incident, or the older downloadable expansion. Neither meaning gives you a Resonant quest name by itself. |
| ParautilitarianSeries background | Series background | A parautilitarian is someone who demonstrates paranatural abilities. Those abilities can have different origins, including personal aptitude or connections with entities and objects. Jesse and Dylan are important examples.Treat the word as a Bureau description of a person, not an RPG class selection. Dylan's playable setup is explained through Forms, Combat Abilities, Talents and Artifacts. |
| Manhattan ↗ | Resonant | Dylan's journey takes place in a transformed Manhattan. The city is the broader setting; it should not be treated as one mission area with a single collectible total. When we use a location guide, we check the Zone and named activity first. A city-wide screenshot is not enough for a precise pickup location. |
| West Incursion Zone ↗ | Resonant | ManhattanGravity-altered geometry makes the direction of travel important. Follow the demonstrated surfaces and route context instead of assuming a normal street map explains the space. |
| The Gap ↗ | Resonant | Build management and experimentationWe use the build guides to change a setup and the map or mission indexes to travel. The Gap and a physical destination solve different problems. |
| Oldest House ↗Series background | Series background | The changing brutalist building is the FBC headquarters and the main setting of CONTROL (2019). Its familiar sectors explain older guide terminology, but do not establish where Dylan can go in Resonant.A Research Sector collectible coordinate from Jesse's game is not a Manhattan collectible coordinate. Check the game title before following any older route. |
| FBC Field Office ↗ | Manhattan hub | Evolving central hub |
| Ordinary AWE ↗ | CONTROL (2019) background event | The childhood incident in Ordinary connects Jesse, Dylan, the Slide Projector and the FBC's Prime Candidate program. It explains the siblings' different histories before Resonant. |
| Prime Candidate Program ↗ | CONTROL (2019) Bureau program | The FBC's search for a future Director designated Dylan as P6 and Jesse as P7. These file labels explain older Bureau records, not a new progression tree for Resonant. |
