What changes from CONTROL

The first game followed Jesse into the Oldest House to find Dylan. Resonant reverses that movement: Dylan leaves years of Bureau confinement and searches for his missing sister in Manhattan.

His history with the FBC matters because the same organization that held and studied him now asks him to respond to a citywide crisis. A returning player will recognize P6 in older Bureau files; a newcomer only needs to know that Dylan's cooperation is not simple loyalty.

How Dylan plays

Dylan fights at close range with the shape-shifting Aberrant and uses paranatural powers rather than Jesse's Service Weapon gunplay. Melee strikes feed the resource used by Combat Abilities, so the player is pushed to move between direct attacks and supernatural tools.

We use the Gap as Dylan's build space for weapon upgrades, abilities, Talents and crafted Artifacts. It helps us plan a loadout, but we are not assuming every previewed power can be equipped at once.

The opening changes his position

In the first-party hands-on we reviewed, Dylan leaves confinement in the Oldest House, receives the Aberrant and reaches Manhattan. The reversal is immediate: the person Jesse once searched for is now the one we control.

The same preview has Zoe respond to Dylan over the radio after he answers a distress call. Their contact gives the isolated protagonist a link to the FBC's field response without making his past with the Bureau disappear.

A short route through Dylan's history

Start with the Ordinary AWE: Jesse and Dylan encountered an Altered World Event as children, and the Bureau's response separated their lives. Dylan was taken into FBC custody and labelled P6 under the Prime Candidate program. In CONTROL, Jesse entered the Oldest House looking for him. Resonant reverses the direction of that search: Dylan goes out into Manhattan looking for Jesse.

This sequence explains why three names recur in files about Dylan: Ordinary is the incident, P6 is the Bureau designation, and the Oldest House is where his confinement took place. None of those is a Resonant upgrade category. Zoe's role as field handler belongs to the present crisis, while Jesse and the Bureau explain the history Dylan carries into it.

What this means for your run

Dylan Faden: what players need to know

When we see P6 in an older file, we read it as Dylan. For Resonant, we would follow his relationship with Jesse and the Bureau before trying to memorize every term from the first game.
