Why does Dylan know Darling?
After the Ordinary incident, the FBC took Dylan into the Oldest House and treated his paranatural abilities as a subject of research. Darling supervised him as Prime Candidate 6. That makes Darling part of Dylan's personal history, not just the scientist in the first game's instructional recordings.
A returning player may recognize Darling's presentations about Objects of Power and resonance. For a new player, the important point is simpler: the Bureau's scientific interest in Dylan had a human cost. The sequel's trailers do not resolve how Dylan now judges Darling.

What should a Resonant player expect?
The cast material confirms that Darling returns, but we have not seen a mission chain, permanent hub position or upgrade service for him. We use the older files to explain his role in CONTROL (2019), not as an unlock guide for Resonant.
When a Bureau explanation appears in the new game, distinguish what Darling recorded years earlier from what Dylan and Zoe can verify in Manhattan. That distinction matters because the new crisis extends outside the building where much of Darling's research took place.

Why Darling's name matters
A file naming Darling can point to research he performed before Resonant rather than to a current mission. In CONTROL, his Head of Research role and supervision of P6 connect him directly to Dylan's confinement. The Prime Candidate file explains the designation; the Ordinary file explains why the Bureau became interested in the siblings in the first place.
That chain is useful when the sequel invokes old Bureau language. It does not establish Darling's location, allegiance or services in Manhattan. Distinguish an archival account of what he did to Dylan from a new scene that would show what he does now.
